Caulk that looks perfect but turns into a dirt magnet in 2 months

I was always skeptical about spending more than $5 on a tube of caulk for baseboards. Grabbed the no-name stuff at the local Ace in Des Moines, smoothed it out nice and clean. Looked flawless for the first 6 weeks, then started turning gray and sticky no matter how I cleaned it. Switched to a mid-grade silicone blend and did the same bathroom trim, still white after 4 months. Anyone else had cheap caulk fail on them like this, or is it just my humidity?

I was patching a 4x4 hole in my hallway drywall and the dust was getting everywhere, so I tried wet sanding with a sponge I saw on a YT video. It clogged up fast at first, but after rinsing it every couple swipes it left the mud smooth with zero dust in the air. Watched my bathroom ceiling go from stained to spotless after 2 coats of stain-blocking primer

I thought Kilz was just a gimmick but after scrubbing that yellow water mark three times with bleach and it still showing through, one coat of the primer hid it completely so I did a second for good measure and now I'm wondering why I didn't try this back in March, anyone else been burned by trusting regular paint over a ceiling leak spot?

Update: My basement floor patch failed after 3 days, here's what happened

Did a self-leveling concrete patch in my basement in Tacoma and it cracked in three spots within 72 hours. Turns out the 1/4 inch layer I put down was way too thin for the cold slab temps, should've gone 3/8 inch minimum. Pulled it up with a chisel and rented a 17 inch floor grinder from Home Depot to prep it right. Anyone else fight with self-leveler on older slabs, or did you just bite the bullet and use a thicker mix?

That moment the drywall anchor gave up at 1 AM

Hanging a heavy shelf in my hallway last Tuesday, I picked the spot, drilled the hole, and got the anchor seated fine. Went to pull the shelf up and the whole bracket ripped clean out, leaving a fist-sized hole in the plaster. Instead of patching it right then, I grabbed a scrap of 3/4 inch plywood, cut it to span behind the wall gap, and screwed the bracket into that through the hole. It's solid now, but the patch job looks rough and I'm wondering if anyone else has a better fix for a blowout like that without redoing the whole wall.

My garage workbench lighting saga ended with 4 cheap clamp lamps

For years I ran one single overhead bulb in my garage and squinted at everything I was cutting or drilling. Last month I finally got sick of it after I almost ruined a piece of oak because I couldn't see a pencil line. I grabbed four 8 dollar clamp lamps from the hardware store on Main Street and spread them around the bench at different angles. Total cost was 32 bucks and it took me about 20 minutes to attach them to the shelf above. Now I can actually see grain direction and screw holes without leaning in like a fool. Has anyone else switched from one big light to multiple small ones and noticed a huge difference? I'm thinking of adding a fifth for the far corner but not sure if that's overkill.

My basement sump pump died during a storm and I found out at 3am

The power flickered at 2:47am during that thunderstorm in Toledo, and when I went to check the pit, the float switch was stuck under a piece of gravel, so now I'm drilling a tiny weep hole in the side of the float housing to stop it from catching debris again, has anyone else dealt with this fix or should I just replace the whole pump for $180?
