That time my drywall sanding dust set off the smoke alarm in every room

Last month I was sanding a patch job in my hallway in Tacoma and figured I'd just tape a plastic sheet over the door. Plastic sheet didn't do much. The dust got into the HVAC and tripped all three smoke detectors around 9pm. I spent an hour with a ladder and a vacuum hose trying to reset them while my neighbor banged on the wall. Turns out the detectors were hardwired and needed a full power cycle from the breaker. Now I cover the vents with painter's tape and wet sand when I can. Has anyone else dealt with dust triggering interconnected alarms, or am I the only clown who learned this the hard way?
