Plumbing surprise behind the bathroom wall in Hartford
Last month I finally opened up the wall to fix a slow leak and found the previous owner had joined copper pipes with garden hose clamps and vinyl tubing. Took me three weekends and about $240 in parts to redo it properly with PEX. The scary part was the drywall behind the tub was already rotting, so I had to replace a 2x4 footer too. Has anyone else uncovered sketchy DIY work from a flipper or old owner that made you question everything?
Oh man I feel this so hard. Found a "renovated" bathroom in my last place where the guy had used flex seal tape on the shower drain and caulked over moldy grout instead of just redoing it. Ended up ripping out half the subfloor and my wife still brings it up every time we talk about buying another house.
