PSA: My neighbor told me to toss my bubble wrap when moving dishes

I used to wrap every single plate and bowl in bubble wrap for moves, but my neighbor who moves every 3 years for work said to use newsprint or packing paper instead. She said bubble wrap actually makes dishes slide around inside the box and crack more often. Tried it for my last move from Austin to Dallas last month and not a single thing broke. Anyone else find a weird moving hack that actually works?

Yeah that "more cushioning = better" thing is exactly what I used to think too. My trick is to use packing paper but crumple it up really loose so it acts like little springs between each dish.

Stack boxes vertically instead of flat to stop dishes from shifting.

Went completely silent for a solid minute after reading that bubble wrap part. I mean, I've always thought more cushioning = better, you know? But now I'm sitting here remembering that move where my grandmother's china got a hairline crack and I just assumed it was the mover's fault. Guess I'll be stockpiling old newspapers from now on.
