My fridge light died right before I tried to make dinner

I was in my kitchen in Austin yesterday trying to figure out what to cook. I opened the fridge and it was pitch black inside, so I had to pull everything out onto the counter. I found half an onion, a jar of salsa, some leftover rice, and two eggs. I ended up making a weird scramble with it all, which actually turned out okay. Has anyone else had to cook by feel in the dark like that?

My old fridge in my last apartment did that like three times a year. The bulb is usually a standard 40 watt appliance bulb you can grab at any hardware store. I kept a spare in a kitchen drawer after the second time it happened. For a quick fix, a battery powered tap light stuck to the inside wall works until you can replace the real bulb.

Three times a year? That fridge had a serious grudge against light bulbs. Mine's maybe once every five years. Keeping a spare is smart though, the tap light trick is pure genius for a midnight snack emergency.
