Hot take: I just threw out $30 worth of fancy sauces I never used

Honestly, I got caught up in a cooking video hype and bought all these small batch hot sauces and weird mustards. They sat in my fridge door for like eight months, taking up space. I finally checked the dates and had to toss them all, which felt like such a waste. Has anyone else fallen for buying a special ingredient for just one recipe and then never touched it again?

My fridge had a whole shelf of those fancy chili oils and truffle salts, a solid $40 worth of stuff I bought on a whim. I used to think having them made me a better cook, but @gibson.mark is right, it's just expensive clutter. Now I force myself to use any special sauce within two weeks or it gets donated. It stopped me from buying more just because some chef online said it was life changing.

My husband bought a fancy mustard that sat in the door for two years. We finally tried it on a sandwich and it tasted exactly like the cheap yellow kind. Sometimes the special stuff isn't special at all.

Tbh I read an article that said the average home has like $50 of expired condiments in the fridge. Made me feel a bit better about my own sauce graveyard.
