Showerthought: A client said my invoices looked like a ransom note
They told me the mix of fonts and colors made them hard to read, so I switched to a single, clean template from a free online tool. Anyone have a go-to invoice format they swear by?

Oh man, the ransom note comment is too real. Got that exact same feedback years ago from a confused client staring at my rainbow-colored, four-font monstrosity. Switched to a plain black and white template and never looked back. Honestly, the free ones from Google Docs or even a simple table in a word processor work perfectly fine. Fancy invoices don't get you paid any faster.

Yeah the rainbow colored four font monstrosity line really got me. I did something similar with my first few invoices, trying way too hard to look creative. It just made everything confusing and honestly a bit desperate looking. Switching to plain black and white was like a weight off my shoulders. Clients stopped asking what things meant and just paid. It's one of those lessons you only learn by making the mistake yourself.
