Overheard a client say they only pay freelance rates if they can 'see the value'

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last week and heard some marketing director brag about how they beat down a graphic designer from $75 to $30 an hour because the designer didn't 'sell their process.' That mindset is exactly why half us spend more time justifying our prices than actually working. How do you guys shut down the 'prove your worth' nonsense before it starts?

$75 to $30 is a wild drop. Value is in the work, not the pitch.
