Tried that 'cut stems at 45 degrees under water' tip from a wedding florist
An older florist named Jean at a workshop in Portland told me I had to cut stems at a 45 degree angle while holding them underwater. I always just snipped them dry and tossed them in the bucket. Ngl I thought she was being overly fussy but tried it on a batch of 30 roses for a funeral order. Every single one perked up within 4 hours and lasted 8 days. Has anyone else noticed a real difference with this underwater cut thing or was it just luck?

Oh totally @maryh96 the underwater cut thing is no joke. Jean knew what she was talking about, I had the exact same reaction when I first tried it on some peonies that were droopy before I even got them in a vase and they stood straight up overnight. It really does make a difference, I swear by it now on every single cut.

The underwater cut trick is a game changer for sure. I had some hydrangeas last summer that were totally limp before I even got them home. Cut them underwater and they perked right up within a few hours. Now I do it with every flower I bring inside. Even roses that look fine seem to last way longer.
