That $8 bucket of flower food from the grocery store actually works

I've been mixing my own preservatives for 5 years, figured the cheap stuff was just sugar water. Tried it last week on a batch of sunflowers from the wholesaler and they lasted 11 days instead of the usual 6. Has anyone else found something cheap that outperformed your pro setup?

Grabbed a bag of that stuff out of desperation when my usual order was delayed and it kept my lilies going almost two weeks past their normal wilt time.

I've been there with my hydrangeas last summer when the store was out of my go-to feed. That stuff has this weird way of keeping the flowers firm way longer than you'd expect, almost like it pumps them full of something they really need. Make sure you're not overdoing it though, I put too much on once and got this weird yellowing on the leaves that scared me half to death. A little pinch under the soil line every 10 days works way better than dumping a whole scoop in one go.
