I finally tried chicken wire for a wedding arch, but it won't hold up

I had a big order for a wedding arch and decided to go foam-free with chicken wire. After setting it up, the flowers started sagging within an hour. I had to use so much tape to keep it in place, which looks bad. Is there a better way to secure chicken wire for heavy designs? I'd love to hear how others handle this.

Switched to double layers of chicken wire with small zip ties every few inches for heavy pieces. Honestly, I thought going foam free meant chicken wire was enough, but a wedding arch needs more backbone. Try a tight grid of zip ties before adding any flowers, it makes all the difference. Tbh, I had to learn that the hard way too, now I see why some folks still use a little foam as a base.

Last year, I tried the double chicken wire thing for a backyard wedding and it was a mess until I added zip ties. @christophermitchell, your tip about the tight grid is key, I space mine about three inches apart now. It's funny how we all skip foam thinking wire is enough, but those stems need something to grip onto. I even use a bit of floral tape on the zip ties to prevent slipping, which is a small step that makes a big difference. Really, once you get the grid right, the whole arch feels solid and you can pack in the flowers without worry.

Christopher's zip tie trick works if you reinforce the base first.
