Carnations used to be my least favorite flower until a bride requested them last month

I had a big wedding order fall through when my usual roses arrived half dead, and the bridesmaids bouquets I threw together with carnations and baby's breath ended up looking way better than the roses would have. Has anyone else had a backup flower surprise you like that?

Wait, you got a big wedding order with half dead roses? That's wild, did the florist just not check them before delivery or what? I mean, carnations are tough little flowers, they can take a beating and still look good for days.

My mom's wedding bouquet back in '95 was supposed to be all white roses, but the florist ran out and subbed in white carnations without telling anyone. She didn't even notice until after the ceremony because carnations actually held up better in the summer heat than the roses would have. Idk maybe it's just me but I'd rather have a flower that lasts through the whole day than one that looks perfect at 10am and droops by dinner.
