A bride in Chicago wanted all white roses for her wedding, but her budget was tight.
Last week I suggested mixing in some white spray carnations to fill the arrangements and save about $300. My partner thinks it's a bad look to ever suggest a cheaper flower, even when it helps the client. What's your line on swapping in less expensive blooms to meet a budget?

Remember that wedding last year where the couple insisted on peonies in October? My friend did the flowers and gently showed them the price per stem, then suggested garden roses as a look-alike that wouldn't bankrupt them. They went for it and sent a thank you note saying the flowers were their favorite part. Sometimes people just don't know what things cost, and a good swap lets them have a full look without the guilt. Your partner might be worried about looking cheap, but I see it as being honest and helpful.

My cousin paid the full peony price for her fall wedding and honestly, the flowers were the only thing she regretted.
