Why does nobody talk about how easy it is to crack a glass fermentation jar?

Dropped my 2-liter jar of hot sauce on the kitchen tile last Tuesday and lost 3 months of work to a puddle of glass and fermented habanero. Has anyone else switched to plastic or stainless after a blowout like this?

Did I used to think glass was the only way to go for fermentation? Yeah, totally. Then I had a 1-gallon pickle jar slip out of my hand and explode on the driveway. @matthew864, I bet your Tuesday would be way messier with pickle juice soaking into the concrete for a week. After that mess, I switched to those big food-grade plastic buckets with the airlock lids, and honestly, I don't miss the glass at all.

Three months of hot sauce on the floor sounds like a solid Tuesday to me.

Man, I gotta say that sounds like a NIGHTMARE to me. Three months of sticky hot sauce residue caked into the floor? That would be a biohazard and a half, plus the smell would probably make you gag every time you walked in the room.
