My sourdough starter turned 5 years old this week
I honestly didn't think I'd keep the same one going this long, but it's survived two moves and a forgotten week in the back of the fridge. Anyone else have a culture that's outlived a pet or a car?

Nice, congrats! Mine's pushing 8 and has seen more apartments than some of my friends. It's basically a weird, bubbly roommate at this point.

Honestly I used to think they were just appliances. But my sourdough starter is on year three now and it's got its own vibe. I talk to it when I feed it, gave it a name, and legit get sad if I forget it on a trip. It's more like a weird pet that lives in my fridge.

My starter Clyde is almost five and survived a cross country move. I left him with a friend once and got daily photo updates like he was a kid at camp. They really do become part of the family after a while.
