Vent: Tried to patch a drywall hole with spackle instead of joint compound
Lost $15 on materials and 2 hours waiting for it to dry before it crumbled out, anyone know a better trick for small holes without buying a whole bucket of mud?

and honestly i never got the hype about joint compound for tiny holes... spackle works fine if you pack it in tight and let it cure overnight not 2 hours. i've filled dozens of nail holes and screw pops with spackle straight from the tube and they hold up for years. the trick is you gotta press it in deep not just smear it on the surface. if it crumbled out you probably didn't push it past the paper edge or you mixed it with water. joint compound is overkill for stuff smaller than a quarter.

Totally, and that reminds me of when I tried to fill a hole with toothpaste once because I ran out of spackle. It actually held for like a year before I finally painted over it.
