Update: My paint can collection just hit 50 and I'm not mad about it
I keep all my leftover paint for touch-ups and finally counted them while cleaning the garage. The one from the kitchen reno three years ago is still good, which saved me a trip to the store. Anyone else have a weirdly large stash of a specific supply?

Honestly that sounds like a fire hazard waiting to happen. I just keep the chip and get a new quart mixed.

Actually it's not a fire hazard at all if you do it right. The whole point is you sand off the paint around the chip first, so you're just putting a tiny bit of primer on bare metal. You let that dry completely before you even touch the base coat. I've been doing it this way for years on my own cars and it works perfectly. It saves a ton of money and the repair is basically invisible.

Yeah but the real problem is the clear coat. If you don't feather that edge out perfectly, you get a visible ring around the chip that catches the light. That's what makes most DIY jobs look bad, not the paint match.
