Took me three failed backsplash jobs before a tile guy told me I wasn't letting thinset cure long enough

I was rushing and slapping tile up right after mixing the mortar and kept getting lippage and slipping, so he said wait a full 24 hours and it fixed everything, has anyone else been doing it the wrong way this whole time?

Heard a pro say patience with thinset is like waiting for bread to rise, just gotta let it do its thing.

Big time. Rushing thinset is the number one mistake I see. Slapped tile on some too-wet thinset last summer. Two weeks later half the floor was loose. Had to tear it all out. Never again. Let it tack up. Test it with your finger. When it's dry to the touch but still sticky that's the sweet spot. Took me a few messy jobs to learn that lesson.
