PSA: my garage cabinet hinge broke mid Sunday and smashed a bottle of stain

I was reaching for a rag on Sunday and the hinge just snapped clean off the MDF door. The whole door fell forward and tipped over a quart of Minwax stain I had sitting on the shelf below. Spent 45 minutes scrubbing stain out of the concrete floor with mineral spirits and a stiff brush. Now I'm gonna replace all my cheap MDF cabinets with plywood ones before something else breaks. Anyone else have those plastic cabinet hinges fail out of nowhere?

Are you sure plywood is actually better though? I've had cheap plywood cabinets warp on me just as fast as MDF, especially if any moisture sneaks in near a sink or basement wall... guess it depends on the build quality, not just the material. @angela_allen53 makes a good point about the MDF soaking up stain, but at least it's easy to cut and replace without fighting knots all day.

And that MDF soaks up every drop of stain like a sponge, making cleanup even worse.
