Just realized my quick fix for a squeaky floor made things worse
Lately I've noticed more people trying to handle floor issues themselves to save cash. I had this annoying squeak in my living room, so I watched a few videos and thought I could fix it from below in the crawl space. I grabbed some wood screws and went under there, aiming for the joists where I thought the noise was coming from. Problem was, I didn't map out the exact spot well enough and ended up driving screws into the wrong parts. Now the squeak is still there, but I also put a bunch of holes in the subfloor for no reason. It's a real mess because I have to patch those holes and still figure out the real source. I guess the trend of DIY floor repairs needs more caution than I gave it. Next time I'll probably call a pro instead of rushing in blind.

Tbh, your quick fix story reminds me of oiling a door hinge only to make it stick worse.

Read that and instantly remembered the time I tried to quiet a rattling window by shoving cardboard in it. Ended up jamming it so bad the whole frame cracked. Sometimes our genius fixes are just fancy ways to create bigger problems, like congratulating yourself for putting out a fire with gasoline. Good times.

My friend once tried to silence a squeaky fan by spraying oil all over it. The noise stopped for a bit, but then the fan started blowing weird smoky smells. Turns out the oil dripped onto the motor and almost caused a short circuit. It's wild how these quick fixes can backfire just like your door hinge thing. Now he double-checks everything before trying a home fix.
