Insulation baffles seemed like a scam until last December

I skipped the soffit baffles when I re-did my attic in October because they looked like flimsy plastic trays, and my heating bill spiked $85 that winter in Columbus. A roofer friend pointed out the packed fiberglass blocking the eaves, and after I installed 24 baffles in one weekend, the upstairs finally holds heat. Has anyone else found a cheap fix that felt pointless but actually solved a real problem?
