I was set on using a 1/2 inch spade bit for my wiring holes, but a guy at the supply house convinced me to try a step bit.

Yeah, I was that person clinging to my spade bit like a security blanket for way too long. Made a real mess of a junction box once, looked like a beaver went at it. Switching felt like admitting I'd been doing it the hard way for no reason, which is basically my whole DIY life story lol.

Oh man, step bits are a total game changer for that! So much cleaner than a spade bit, and you can make different size holes with one tool. That guy did you a solid.

Read somewhere that step bits work great on metal too, not just wood.
