I was remodeling my kitchen in Denver and a neighbor's comment changed my whole approach to backsplash tile
She came over and said my grout lines were way too wide for subway tile (like 1/8 inch instead of 1/16) and I thought she was wrong. Turns out she was right, now the whole wall looks sloppy and I have to redo it. Has anyone else had a random passerby give spot-on advice you ignored?

Had a buddy in Phoenix who ignored some random guy at Home Depot telling him he needed a wet saw for his glass tile project. He went with a regular tile cutter instead and ended up chipping almost every single piece (it was a nightmare to look at). I drove over one afternoon to see the damage and he was just staring at his wall with this defeated look, saying "shoulda listened to that dude." He ripped it all out the next weekend and did it right the second time. Funny how strangers can sometimes see your mistakes clearer than you can, isn't it?

Man, that story hits home. I had a similar thing happen with my brother-in-law when he tried to install laminate flooring. Some old guy at the lumber yard told him to let the planks sit in the room for 48 hours before installing, but he thought that was nonsense. Three days later, I walked into his living room and the floor was all buckled up like a roller coaster. He was sitting there with a crowbar already in his hand, just waiting to tear it up.
