Helped a neighbor level his sagging floor, now I question every self-leveler I've used
He mixed the bag wrong and poured it too thick in his 1920s house near Columbus, and watching it crack over 2 days made me realize I've been trusting the label's ratios too much for the last 6 jobs, so has anyone else adjusted their mix based on the actual subfloor instead of what the bag says?

Grabbed a bag of that stuff last spring for my own place, a 1950s ranch with a floor that dipped like a lazy river. Bag said one thing, but I eyeballed the plywood and thought nah, this needs more water, so I went off-script. Turns out it cured fine, but then I noticed a hairline crack near the baseboard heater a week later, and I blamed the temperature swing instead of my tinkering. Now I’m half convinced the label is just a suggestion, and the real trick is checking if the joists are even worth a damn before you pour a single scoop.
