Finally got my miter saw cuts perfect after noticing one common mistake

Honestly, I kept getting gaps in my picture frames until I saw a video where the guy said to always cut with the good face of the wood down. I was doing it the opposite way for months. Anyone else have a simple trick that fixed a basic skill for them?

My uncle who's been a finish carpenter for 30 years always cuts with the good face up. He says you can see the blade hit your line better that way. I tried the face down method and it just felt wrong, like I had less control. I think it depends more on your saw's alignment than which way the wood is facing.

My old foreman swore by face down cuts to prevent tear-out on expensive walnut.

Man, that exact thing drove me nuts with some oak trim last year. I was so focused on the blade line that I didn't even consider which side was facing up. A sharp blade made a difference, but flipping the board was the real fix for me.
