Am I the only one who thinks you should skip the primer on fresh drywall?

Everyone says you have to prime it first, but I just used two coats of a good quality paint with a built-in primer on a bedroom last month and it came out perfect. Has anyone else tried this and saved a step?

My uncle's contractor in Florida skipped primer on new drywall to save time. The whole living room had weird dark patches after six months, like the paint just drank up different. They had to strip it and start over.

My buddy's paint peeled in sheets, remember that?

Remember that time I tried to paint my own dresser? Looked like a sunburned lizard after a week. Whole strips just curled up and fell off. I used the cheap stuff from the bargain bin, so I guess I earned that mess. My DIY skills are a public safety warning.
