Warning: I spent $40 on a 'premium' streaming service and watched maybe two movies
I signed up for that Mubi service last month because all the artsy film people online raved about it. Thought I'd finally watch some classic foreign films and feel smart about it. Turns out I just scrolled past everything because the subtitles felt like work after a long day. I think I put on one French movie for ten minutes before I fell asleep. Ended up just rewatching The Office on Netflix like always. Anyone else fall for a fancy streaming service they barely touched?

Oh man, I read this article the other day about how most streaming services have like a 90% churn rate on their movie libraries. People just don't watch the stuff they pay extra for. I fell for the Criterion Channel hype last year, thought I'd finally get into all those classic films everyone talks about. Ended up watching maybe three movies over six months before I canceled it. Its just too easy to pick something familiar like The Office instead of reading subtitles or sitting through a slow burn. Your mileage may vary but I honestly think the fancy services are just for people who already know they'll watch that stuff regularly. The rest of us are just paying for the idea of becoming a more cultured person.

Bet you'd watch more if you actually sat down and committed instead of scrolling your phone through a Kurosawa movie.
