Rewatched a 90s kids movie and caught a detail I missed as a kid

I put on The Iron Giant last night for the first time in maybe 15 years. I used to watch it on VHS constantly, but I never noticed how much the town's diner scene sets up the whole ending. There's a moment around the 40 minute mark where the waitress talks about the giant like he's just a misunderstood stray, and then later the army guy says the exact opposite line. I literally paused and rewound it twice because I couldn't believe they hid that parallel in plain sight. It made me want to re-rate it from an 8 to a 9.5 on my personal list. Has anyone else gone back to an old favorite and found a clue or callback that totally changed their score for it?
