PSA: a 1982 arcade game I scored 8/10 has a kill screen at level 256 and I only learned this from a 40 minute video
Picked up a beat up cabinet for cheap at a garage sale in Akron. Gave it an 8/10 for feel, sounds, the whole thing. Then I read that the screen glitches out at level 256 because the game runs out of room to draw the level number. It just breaks. Not a boss, not a win, the code gives up. Blew my mind that a score I handed out casually had this whole story behind it. Do you drop points for stuff like that or keep the score about the fun?
Keeping the score about the fun makes more sense since a kill screen is really a weird badge of honor, not a flaw in the design. It shows the makers never thought anyone would get that far, which is kind of cool. The glitch is part of the game's history, so it almost adds to the score instead of taking away.
