Pro tip: I started writing my game scores down in a notebook a minute after playing instead of the next day
A guy on a Discord server for indie games pointed out that my scores were all weirdly high and asked if I was rating games a day or two after I finished them. I was, and I realized I could only remember the big moments, not the boring parts in between, so everything came out a 8 or 9. Now I keep a little notebook next to my couch and jot a number within an hour of closing the game, plus one line about what I liked or did not. My last five scores were a 6, 7, 5, 8 and 6, way more spread out than the 8s I used to hand out. Anyone else find their scores shift when you rate right after playing instead of letting it sit?
Have you noticed this happens with a lot of things where you rate them right away versus later? Same deal with food. If you ask me how a meal was the next morning I'll say it was great, but if you ask me right after I'm done I'll remember the fries were cold or the bun was soggy. Or movies, same thing. I walked out of some big action movie last year thinking it was awesome, then a week later I could barely remember the plot. The stuff that sticks around in your memory is usually just the loud parts, and the boring middle gets wiped out. Writing it down early keeps you honest about the whole thing instead of just the highlights.
