Our shared hallway smell is ruining movie nights in my building

I live in a 12 unit building on Maple Street and someone keeps cooking fish in the shared hallway kitchen area. Last night I tried to watch The Grand Budapest Hotel and all I could smell was salmon. The movie is so cozy and pastel and my apartment just reeked. I texted the building group chat and two people replied, one said 'it's not me' and the other sent a laughing emoji. Has anyone else had a neighbor's smell completely wreck a show or film for them? How do you even bring this up without being the grumpy person on floor 3?
