My buddy swore old movies looked better on a CRT TV
My friend Mike kept telling me I was missing out by watching The Thing on my 4K monitor. He said the grain and motion blur look way more natural on a tube TV from 1998. I finally dragged his old Sony Trinitron out of his garage and hooked it up last weekend. He was right honestly, the practical effects in that 1982 scene where the dog changes shape looked a lot more grounded. Has anyone else tried watching a classic horror movie on an old CRT instead of a modern screen?

Yeah, the scanlines and natural blur just make practical effects click better. Your buddy was onto something.

Does that mean digital effects will ever REALLY sell the illusion the same way, or is it a lost cause at this point?
