Hit 100 listens on my bedroom recording in three weeks
I threw a lo-fi instrumental on SoundCloud at midnight just to test my new microphone and somehow it crossed 100 plays before I even woke up, which got me thinking about how algorithms just randomly pick stuff up sometimes.

Hugo's got a point honestly, I was just being lazy with the "random" thing because it's easier to blame the algorithm than admit my track might actually be decent. My first bedroom recording sounded like someone threw a mic into a washing machine full of pillows, so if this new one got traction it's probably just the universe making up for that disaster. Still feels weird waking up to notifications though, like I overslept and my music got a job before I did. But yeah, clean audio and that lo-fi vibe probably did more work than any luck factor.

oh man, that's a great feeling when things just take off like that. i'm happy for you. but i gotta gently push back on the "algorithms just randomly pick stuff up" idea a bit. in my experience, those SoundCloud algorithms are actually pretty good at reading the room. they look at things like listen time, skips, and saves, not just raw plays. that track probably had a decent retention rate, maybe people actually listened through to the end or added it to their playlists before you even checked. the mic test angle might have helped too, a clear recording with zero background noise goes a long way in that lo-fi space. it's not random, it's more like the algorithm saw something working and gave it a little extra push.
