Heard two women at the library comparing how they rate movies on a 1-10 scale

I was sitting near the fiction section last Saturday when I overheard one lady say she never gives anything below a 6 because "someone worked hard on it." The other one said she gives 10s like candy because a movie either works for her or it doesn't. It got me thinking about how personal our rating systems really are. I personally use a 5-star system where 3 means it was fine and 4 means I'd watch it again. Do you have a hard rule about what gets a certain score or do you just go with your gut every time?

That's a lot of mental energy to spend on a number you forget five minutes later. Maybe just say if you liked it or not and move on with your life.

Oh come on, it's not like we're doing calculus here. You can think about a movie for a few minutes without it ruining your whole day. Some people just like to break down why something worked or didn't, it's not that deep.
