Unpopular opinion: High end makeup brushes are NOT worth the hype
I used to swear by my $60 Sephora brush set, thought it was the only way to get a flawless blend. Then I grabbed a $12 set from TJ Maxx in Nashua last month on a whim, just to try something different. Turns out the cheap ones blended my foundation even better and haven't shed a single hair after 4 weeks of daily use. The expensive ones started fraying after 3 months, total letdown. On the flip side, I've had a $50 powder brush from Ulta that's lasted me 2 years solid. So is it really about the price tag, or is it just luck with individual brushes? Who else has had a cheap tool outperform a fancy one?

Man oh man, my buddy Sarah had the exact same thing happen. She dropped like eighty bucks on a fancy kabuki brush from some boutique brand and it started falling apart after a few washes. Her sister gave her a cheap no-name brush from a drugstore and she's been using that thing every day for over a year with zero issues. She still jokes about how mad it makes her that the bargain bin brush is her favorite.

You basically just described my exact experience. I was a total snob about brushes for years, thought you had to drop serious cash to get good results. A five dollar elf blending brush from Target changed my whole mind last spring, that thing blends eyeshadow better than any expensive one I own. Meanwhile a twenty five dollar foundation brush from Sephora started shedding on me after two months, total waste of money. It really does seem like some brushes are just made well regardless of the price and some are duds no matter what you pay.
