Shoutout to the 14 clients who actually showed up for their bang trims in January
I started keeping a paper log of every appointment at my chair in Portland, and January came out to 14 bang trims that actually happened. Sounds low, but my no show rate used to run almost a third, and those little ten dollar trims were what kept the lights on during the slow stretch. I stopped taking walk ins for them and started booking them at 9am before my color clients, and the same folks came back every time. Anybody else track their no shows on paper like this, or am I the last one doing it the old way?
I heard a thing on a hair podcast about tracking repeat clients vs one timers, and the guest said her books got way better once she counted who came back instead of just who booked. That lines up with what you're seeing with those 9am trims. I keep a cheap notebook too, nothing fancy, just name, date, and whether they showed. After a few months you start seeing the same names pop up and you stop sweating the empty slots. Paper does not crash or log you out either, which is more than I can say for the booking app I tried. Your no show rate dropping from a third to basically nothing is the real win there.
