PSA: My aunt, a retired stylist from Orlando, convinced me to stop charging by the hour for color corrections.

She said, 'You're not selling minutes, you're selling your expertise and the result,' which finally made sense after I undercharged for a 4-hour fix on a box dye disaster last month. How do you all price tricky color work?

Four hours on a box dye mess? That's brutal.

Yeah, saw a post saying to price by the level of correction needed, not time. Totally agree with you and @veramiller, those box dye jobs are a special kind of hard.

Exactly. It's not just the time, it's the damage control. You might have multiple colors to strip, banding to fix, and fragile hair that needs serious care before you can even start the new color. A simple root touch-up in a salon is one thing, but undoing a box black dye on bleached hair is a whole other project. The price has to cover all that risk and extra work.
