I still don't get the hype around those $300 hair dryers
Been cutting and styling for about 8 years now in a small shop outside Portland. Everyone in my crew swears by those fancy ionic dryers that cost as much as a car payment. Last month my old trusty Conair finally died after 6 years of daily use. So I borrowed my coworker's top of the line $320 Babyliss for a week. Honestly I timed it and my drying time was maybe 3 minutes faster on thick curly hair. The finish looked the same to me and my clients didn't notice a difference either. I ended up grabbing a $45 dryer from the drugstore that has a decent concentrator nozzle and it's working fine. Am I missing something obvious or is this mostly just marketing hype that we all bought into?

Maybe 3 minutes saved is worth $300 to someone?

Funny thing about time and money though... people will spend $300 on a concert ticket for a 3 hour show and not blink, but $300 to skip a line seems crazy. It's all about what feels like a waste in the moment, you know?

Saw a news article the other day about how people pay for convenience more than actual time. There was this whole breakdown of what 3 minutes of your time is worth based on your hourly wage. But $300 for 3 minutes is like $6,000 an hour. That's insane if you think about it. Unless you're like a lawyer billing insane rates, no one's time is worth that much. Honestly kinda blows my mind people fall for this stuff. Just feels like companies taking advantage of impatience.
