Hot take: Sectioning clips matter way more than people think

I used to just grab whatever clips were on the shelf at Sally's. Cheap plastic ones, metal ones, whatever. Then last month I splurged on the big metal duckbill clips for a balayage on a thick-haired client. Took me half the time to section. The grip is just better. No slipping, no hair sliding out. I don't know why more stylists don't talk about this. Anybody else notice a difference with clip quality?

Oh man, the "grip is just better" part hit home for me. I picked up a set of those big metal duckbills last year after fighting with a particularly stubborn client who had hair like silk (slippery nightmare). The difference was insane - my sections actually stayed put instead of that sinking feeling when a clip pops open mid-cut. And the pressure? So much more even. Less dents in the hair too, which is a bonus. I think the lighter plastic ones bend over time and lose their bite, so you're constantly readjusting. Never thought I'd have such strong feelings about clips but here we are.
