Had a client ask for a 'sunset balayage' and brought in a picture of a literal sunset from Arizona

It was last Tuesday, and she showed me a photo on her phone of the sky over Sedona. I had to explain that hair color doesn't work like a photo filter, but we could try to get the orange and pink tones. We spent almost four hours mixing and painting, and she actually loved the result. Has anyone else had a client bring in a totally wild color reference that wasn't hair?

My cousin brought in a picture of her pet lizard for a color match. The real challenge is translating that kind of texture and light into something for hair. You managed to pull it off with a sunset, which is honestly impressive.

Honestly @emery_taylor, for tricky textures like that lizard skin, I'd layer a matte shadow root under some glossier, brighter pieces to fake that depth.

Seems like a lot of work for a haircut.
