Am I the only one who thought the 10 minute scalp massage add on was a gimmick?
For 3 years I skipped that little add on box on my intake forms because I figured it was just fluff to pad the ticket. Then last Tuesday a client named Renee in her 60s asked for it, so I gave her the full 10 minutes and she fell asleep in my chair. When she woke up she said her migraines had been cut in half since she started booking it back in January. I looked it up that night and there is actual stuff behind it, the pressure points near the neck and temples really do something for tension headaches. Now I offer it first instead of burying it at the bottom of the menu and my rebooking rate went from about half to 7 out of 10. Do any of you who do scalp work charge it as its own service or just fold it into the cut price?
Laughed at myself reading this because I did the exact same thing for years, just waved that box off like it was a scam to bump the ticket. Turns out I was wrong and stubborn about it, which is pretty much my whole personality. I fold it into the cut price right now, but hearing that rebooking jump makes me wonder if I'm leaving money on the table. Renee falling asleep in your chair is the real proof though, hard to fake that.
Ten minutes is nothing when you think about how much time we waste on stuff that doesn't matter. Might try charging it separate for a month and see if anyone balks.
