A client in Atlanta said my blowouts looked 'too perfect' and stiff.

She specifically told me she wanted more natural movement, not that helmet-head look, which honestly stung a bit. I started using a bigger round brush and less tension on the ends, focusing on root volume instead of smoothing every single strand. Has anyone else had to unlearn making hair look 'done' and figure out how to make it look good instead?

Wait, she actually used the words "helmet-head" to your face? That's brutal. I'd be replaying that in my head for a week. Good on you for figuring out the bigger brush trick though.

Did you ever notice how clients say "natural" but they really mean "effortless but still amazing"? That's the hardest thing to get right. I mean, we spend all this time learning to make it perfect, and then we have to learn to leave some of that out. Your fix with the bigger brush and less tension sounds spot on. It's like you're fighting your own training to make it look like you didn't try so hard, which is kinda funny when you think about it.
