Vent: A client in Phoenix yelled at me for not using canned air on his dusty server

I was doing a clean out at a small office there, and the guy saw me using a small vacuum and a brush. He went off about static, but I've been doing it that way for 8 years with zero issues. The canned air just blows the dust deeper into the heatsinks anyway. How many of you actually stick to the canned air rule for every job?

How many techs have gotten yelled at over that same stupid rule?

Man, I gotta disagree with you on this one @nelson.cameron. That rule is usually there for a real reason, even if it seems dumb in the moment. It often comes from a past problem that caused a bigger mess. Getting yelled at is never okay, but sometimes the rule itself isn't the stupid part. It's how people explain it, or don't explain it, that causes the frustration.

Honestly, I used to roll my eyes at rules like that too. But @nelson.cameron, you're probably right that the yelling is what makes it stick in people's heads. I remember one job where they had this dumb rule about not stacking boxes a certain way, then found out it was because someone got hurt a few years back. It just never got explained well, so everyone thought it was pointless.
