Swapped out my thermal paste from the cheap stuff to Arctic MX-6 and dropped 8 degrees on a Ryzen 5 build I did last weekend
I used to just use whatever paste came with the cooler but a buddy at Micro Center talked me into trying the MX-6. The temp difference was way bigger than I expected, especially under load. Anyone else notice a big jump switching paste brands on AMD chips?

The MX-6 is good stuff but 8 degrees sounds like a lot just from paste alone. It's more likely the old paste wasn't applied right or had dried out over time. Most quality pastes are within a couple degrees of each other when applied correctly. Still a win for you though.

Oliver said 8 degrees is too much just from paste? Man, I totally disagree. I swapped from stock paste to Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on my old 5600X and saw a straight up 7 degree drop. And that was with a fresh application of the stock stuff, not some dried out glob. AMD chips run hot and the stock paste they pack in is garbage, period. So yeah, 8 degrees sounds totally believable to me, especially if you went from the cheap white stuff to something like MX-6. It's not just about the thermal conductivity, it's also how long it lasts before it dries out.
