My old boss told me never trust a refurbished power supply and he was right after one blew on me

Picked up a used 750w unit for $35 off Facebook Marketplace in Cleveland last month and it fried my test bench motherboard within 20 minutes of plugging it in, has anyone else had a refurb PSU fail like that?

My buddy had a similar issue with a refurbished EVGA 650w last year. It ran fine for about a month then started flickering and took out his GPU. I honestly think refurbished PSUs are a gamble depending on who did the work and what was actually wrong with it. Your mileage may vary but I'd only trust ones from a big brand with a solid warranty.

Yeah, you're totally right that it's a gamble depending on who did the work. I grabbed a refurbished Corsair 750w once and it worked for about six months, then started randomly shutting down my PC. Never again, I'll pay full price for a new PSU from now on.
