I tried two different thermal paste application methods on a batch of gaming PCs last month.

One was the pea-sized dot in the center, the other was the full spread with a card. The spread method gave me a full 5 degrees Celsius lower on average under load across ten machines. It took a bit more time, but the results were clear. Has anyone else found the spread method to be that much better for high-end builds?

Wow, a full five degrees is a huge difference. I've tested this myself and never saw more than a two or three degree gap. Were you using the exact same paste for both methods? Sometimes a thicker paste doesn't spread well from just a dot, which could explain your results.

Yeah, thicker paste can be a real pain. I've found warming the tube in your hand first helps it spread easier from a dot.
