I picked a shop vac over a data vac for cleaning PCs and I stand by it

Everyone in this sub swears by those little data vac blowers, but I went with a 5-gallon shop vac from Home Depot for cleaning out dusty rigs. I work in a warehouse and deal with caked-on filth, so the suction actually pulls gunk out instead of just blowing it deeper into crevices. Yeah, it's bulky and loud, but last week I cleaned a 10-year-old office PC that hadn't been touched in years and it came out spotless in 15 minutes. Has anyone else ditched the blower for a vac and found it works better for really nasty builds?

But doesn't the sheer volume of a shop vac make it harder to control around sensitive components? I'm wondering if you've ever had any close calls with it snagging a cable or pulling too hard on a loose fan.

I swapped my data vac for a 4 gallon rigid shop vac last year and never looked back. That little blower just moves dust around but the vac actually gets it out of tight spots like PSU grills and fan blades. I had a client's rig that looked like it survived a sandstorm and the shop vac had it clean in under 20 minutes with no dust clouds everywhere.
