Hot take: I think the whole 'always use an antistatic wrist strap' advice is overblown

I was reading a post last night where a guy said he fried his motherboard because he didn't ground himself, and everyone piled on telling him he was an idiot. Here's the thing, I've been building and repairing computers for almost 12 years now, and I've never once used a wrist strap. I just touch the metal case before I start and work on a wood bench. Came out of a job in Denver a couple months back where I swapped power supplies on 5 different machines in a dusty basement, no issues. Am I just lucky, or does anyone else think the risk gets blown way out of proportion?

Right there with you. Built dozens of rigs over the years and never touched a wrist strap, just tap the case and keep one hand in my pocket. All that fear mongering feels like it came from the same crowd that thinks a single speck of dust will kill your GPU.

Honestly, that "spec of dust kills your GPU" crowd is exhausting. Good to know I'm not the only one who's been just grounding on the case for years with zero issues.
