Had a week where every machine I touched had a stuck fan bearing

Last Thursday alone I replaced six case fans across four different builds, all with that same grinding rattle. Made me wonder if there's a bad batch floating around or if it's just the summer heat cooking the grease out of them. Anyone else seeing more fan failures than usual lately?

Six bad fans in one week sounds like you pissed off a computer ghost or something. Maybe all the cheap bearings finally hit their expiration date at the same time. I'd blame the summer heat too since warm grease turns into water and dries out fast. Could be a bad batch from some factory where they skimped on lubricant to save two cents. Either way your hands must be sore from all that swapping. At least you didn't have to replace a PSU fan those are the real nightmare.

Actually what really helped me was getting one of those fan hub controllers with individual headers, so I could test each fan before even installing it. I kept a spare fan on the desk and would spin it by hand first to feel for any rough spots before plugging it in. Saved me a ton of headache because I caught three bad ones right out of the box before they ever went into a case.
