Had a drive fail on a client's server last Tuesday and it was a mess
Tbh I thought RAID 5 on a Dell PowerEdge T330 would protect us but one drive died and the rebuild took over 14 hours. The whole time the client was screaming about their invoicing system being down. I should have pushed for a hot spare from the start. Anyone else deal with rebuilds taking way longer than the specs say?

Did the hot spare actually save you though? I've seen rebuilds take nearly 18 hours on a 330 even WITH a hot spare because the controller just chugs along. @oscarb71 is right man, that whole situation sucks. RAID 5 on those older PowerEdge boxes is a gamble if you don't have the budget for enterprise drives either.

That third shift schedule really grinds you down after a while. Hope you can grab some solid rest soon.
